About Us

Grace Church is part of the Episcopal Church which is a member of the Anglican Communion of Churches compromising some 80 million people all over the world. While we rejoice in our ancient heritage as Anglican Christians, we also rejoice in our local heritage here in Jamestown. As a parish we seek to be a vibrant faith community where people of all ages can learn how to connect their faith to their daily life.

What Kind of People Come To Grace Church?

To be blunt – all kinds of people, from Native North Dakotans, to people who have lived all over the world, attend Grace Church. Some of us grew up in the Episcopal Church, while many of us did not. Some of us are raising families, while some of us are retired. Some of us are still in school, while some us wish we still were! You’ll find people with strong faith at Grace Church, right alongside those who have lots of questions and doubts. All are welcome.

History of the Church

The first Anglican services in the Jamestown area were held at Fort Seward on the western edge of the city in 1872. Before long, services were also being held for civilian settlers, and in 1881, Grace Church was incorporated as St. James Episcopal Church. Within a very short time, the name of our parish was changed to Grace Episcopal Church. Our lovely Gothic style church is built of native field stone from the prairie, and has been lovingly cared for over its more than 125 years of existence. Our congregation seeks to be faithful to our frontier roots by being a Christian community where lay people exercise significant roles of leadership and service within the church. As a congregation we rejoice in our history but are committed to being a congregation for today’s world with a bright future.

You are invited to be part of that future. Visit us soon!
